Traditions with a Twist

Traditions with a Twist

Katie and Jenna—Olegs and Rita

As you will have discovered by now, Weddings have many ancient traditions. With so many wedding traditions to consider for your big day, it’s important to remember you don’t have to include them, or you can make them your own! We’ve seen a lot of modern twists to these traditions so thought we’d share a few of our recent favourites.

Katie and Jenna—Olegs and Rita

Although here at Winters Barns we have two dressing rooms for you to use to get ready on the morning of your wedding—we love that Katie and Jenna chose to get ready together until they put their dresses on. The salon was full of excitement from both sets of bridesmaids, and you could really see how calm Katie and Jenna were together having each other for support.

Who said the Bride can’t do a speech?! We love seeing our Brides get on the mic! Often bringing tears to everyone’s eye or make them howl with laughter. Maids of Honour, Bridesmaids speeches are great too—get all the girls involved!

Sadie and Brett—Steve Barber

There are so many different options when it comes to guest books, and we’ve seen so many creative and fun ideas from our couples. Starting with Rebecca and Alex who chose to have a wooden board for their guests to sign that they would then be able to put up in their house as a permanent reminder of their special day.

We couldn’t get enough of Katie and Michael’s centrepieces! Each table was named after a record and had the vinyl with sharpies for that table to sign. A nice way to add to their collection with a special touch from their wedding day. They also then had a guitar out for all their guests and additional evening guests to sign. This musical theme paired with their evening band, Groove Zoo perfectly!

Sadie and Brett went for a classic guest book with a twist. With the addition of a polaroid camera, it meant their guests could take a photo of themselves to put with their well wishes in the guest book. A simple yet more personal twist.

Who doesn’t like cake? Well… actually quite a few people! We’ve seen some beautiful traditional wedding cakes, but we loved these alternatives.

The most delicious looking brownies for Anna and Luke. They went down a treat with their guests! The perfect sweet treat for you and your guests to enjoy in the evening.

Richard and Morgan went for a more savoury option and opted for a four-tiered cheese tower! With their favourite cheeses paired with fruits and chutneys, this twist on a traditional wedding cake was enjoyed by all.

How impressive is this Ferrero Rocher Tower! Another fun and tasty twist on a traditional cake. Kayleigh and Chris really got creative with this one! Who’s going to risk taking the first one?

Becky and Matt– Matt Trott

What better way to start your ceremony than a Flower Boy and Girl… but remember these are traditions with a twist! Picture your best friends with a bum bag full of petals as they strut down the aisle with sunglasses on and making your guests cry with laughter! Becky and Matt’s Flower Boy and Girl brought the house down and we can’t help but laugh when looking at these photos.

When walking down the aisle, it’s not always possible to have who you may have pictured with you. Claire showed us her strength by walking on her own down the aisle. Her soon to be husband Nico was at the end of the aisle ready to make her laugh and put her at ease!

Suzy had her sister and bridesmaid walk her down the aisle which was so touching and a lovely moment for the sisters.

Catherine and Kieran- Tom Cullen

A little treat for your dancing feet, but not your classic flip flops. Catherine and Kieran treated their guests with slippers for their evening reception and we’ve never been so jealous! We loved that they matched their colour scheme too!

So, what do you think about these twists—will you include any on your big day?
